Georgetown Heritage Society
One of my favorite new holiday traditions is the historic home tour hosted by the Georgetown Heritage Society. I love a home tour no matter what, but historic homes are near and dear to my heart. In fact, it was the home tour last Christmas that motivated us to purchase our own historic home in Georgetown!
The tour is scheduled for December 11th and 12th from noon to 5:00. Tickets may be purchased in advance on-line and through several local Georgetown stores OR the day of the tour only at the heritage society. The homes all have historical significance (of course) and will be decked out in holiday finery. If the weather is sunny and crisp like it was last year, this is guaranteed to be a lovely afternoon out. Make sure you stop by the Monument Cafe for dessert too!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a girl who likes to shop. I can shop with the best of them and as a matter of fact, it’s part of my job. But there’s a point where shopping is excessive and stores are just pushy. I’m not sure if I should be excited that Black Friday discounts [...]

Everyone knows that the Pottery Barn catalog (or maybe Martha Stewart Living) sets the standard for what our holiday entertaining would look like in an ideal world with an endless budget and an uncluttered schedule. Of course we would have a color coordinated Christmas tree instead of a mish-mash of school craft projects, hand-me-down ornaments [...]

What will influence colors in fashion and design for 2011? The social and economic climate has a fascinating and direct impact on color trends in clothing and home decor. When times are hard, or perceived to be so, colors tend to be more somber or gentle, as if to say “we aren’t pretending to be [...]

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only one week away. Are you ready? If you’re hosting, you’ll need to plan your Thanksgiving spread and seasonal decorations. Of course you can have your kids make the beloved “hand turkeys” or place a pot of mums and you’re done. However, if you’d like to spruce up [...]

We here at Spark are always discussing fresh ideas for design, color ways, and opportunities to support our clients in making meaningful shifts in their surroundings. At our delicious lunch yesterday (thank you, Blue Star Cafeteria), we talked about the joyful impact of spring flowering bulbs. We love the way they look scattered in drifts [...]

You asked for it, so here it is. . . our party food recipes! Even though we don’t claim to be particularly skilled in the culinary arts, we do like to eat and we know how to choose tasty recipes. At our recent Spark Peek of the Season party, we set up a soup bar [...]
