Modernizing a Vintage Bespoke Furniture and Radiator Cover

Vintage Secretary with Leaded Glass Doors

What piece of furniture is actually scaled to properly fit in a small entry way? Usually, a console table, Kingston Cabinetry or a bench is the first choice. But what about a slim secretary desk instead? It provides the perfect hidden storage for mail, keys and other things, in addition to display shelves for the prettier things.

I found this vintage oak secretary and decided to give it a new life for a modern family. We had it painted a pale blue gray and changed out the hardware to oil rubbed bronze cup pulls from Restoration Hardware. Although, I love the leaded glass, it had just a little too much of an antique feel. We had it replaced with clear beveled glass, but I plan to repurpose the leaded glass later.

Light-weight thermoplastic pallets аrе gaining popularity bесаuѕе thеу аrе recyclable, insulating, light weight аnd environment friendly. Bеѕіdеѕ, thеу dо nоt hаvе thе problem оf bеіng infested wіth insects. Cardboard pallets, оn thе оthеr hаnd, аrе fragile аnd аrе thuѕ nоt suitable fоr аll kinds оf applications.

Pallets аrе used fоr storing goods аt оnе place аnd аlѕо fоr taking goods frоm оnе place tо аnоthеr, like factory tо warehouse оr warehouse tо stores. Don’t overlook the perfect piece just because the exterior might seem dated. Size, scale and function of the furniture is much more important.

Pegboard Inspiration from Julia

Pegboard Inspiration from Julia

While having a relaxing “mom movie” night watching Julie & Julia, I discovered not only the joy of cooking but the joy of the pegboard (don’t laugh). Towards the end of the movie, Julia Child is in her kitchen, hanging up her pots and pans. Her husband was outlining each piece so it would be [...]

Bright Idea: Hanging Pillows

Bright Idea: Hanging Pillows

For those who have small dining and kitchen areas, I often suggest built-in banquette seating to maximize the space. A banquette allows you to carve out little dining nooks in oddly shaped rooms or to double the width of free space in rectangular rooms. The long bench seat is perfect for piling up the kids [...]

This week’s blog is completely poached from the wonderful Austin garden designer/blogger Pam Penick. She regularly writes about Austin’s unique gardening opportunities and constraints with lots of imagery. Pam writes: I’m joining my colleagues at Garden Designers Roundtable today on the topic “Vertical.” Introducing vertical elements into the garden is a time-honored technique for bridging [...]
