Color Trends for 2011, Part IV: Bold, Vibrant Color

Electic Red Dining Room via CocoCozy

For the fourth and final installment of our color trends series, we bring to you the Sherwin Williams color palette Bold Invention. No shrinking violets in this bunch, the color group features concentrated versions of red, aqua, green and gold tempered by an industrial neutral gray and beige. This color scheme is all about creative invention, fearless energy and an optimistic outlook. These super saturated colors aren’t for everyone, but anyone can dabble a smidge of brights in an otherwise quiet space. A lamp base, vase or accent pillow in a rich hue can be just the pop a room needs.

For those braver with color, take inspiration from the photo above. These (very) bright red dining room walls work because the room is balanced with loads of white in the trim, furniture and draperies. The seat cushions are upholstered in a playful red circle fabric the same shade of the walls to keep the bold color consistent. Jonathan Adler via House of Turquoise

No discussion about innovative color is complete without mentioning Jonathan Adler. In his book, My Prescription for Anti-Depressive Living, Adler calls for outlandish color choices and humor in design as a means of happiness. Maybe paint is the new Prozac for the brave new world of 2011. . . hmmm.
