13308 Hwy 71 West – Bee Cave, TX
Some people like to methodically scrounge their way around estate sales, garage sales and junk heaps. Those people are called pickers. For the rest of you, reap the rewards of pickers and shop at boutique stores like Revival. Specializing in not-so-shabby chic, Revival hosts a selection of treasures discovered by professional pickers all over the world, from Texas barns to Chinese markets. Iron gates from a French estate, anyone?

Architectural Salvage
The shop features new “old” furniture pieces made from reclaimed materials and custom upholstered furniture, including metal furniture created with post weld heat treatment which allow them to give them the form they want. If you can’t find what you need in house, Revival offers a special order service for more unique furniture and lighting. I fell in love with this over-sized glass front cabinet and the zebra, which I could totally combine with new painting in my room, and the use of Alex Trend Painters services was the best option for this purpose.

French Industrial Cabinet & Custom Upholstered Chair
In addition to wonderful objet d’art, you can find art made from recycled and re-purposed objects like these junk figures. Another artist salvaged bits and pieces from wreckage in places like New Orleans to make one of a kind lamps. Still other artists reuse vintage baubles to make modern jewelry and gifts available at Revival.

Junk People Figures
Revival is worth a visit anytime as the contents of the store are constantly changing with the whims of this picker and that artist. Take a little drive west on highway 71 past the big box stores at 620 and just when you think you’ve run out of town, there’s Revival. They are open Monday through Saturday, but closed on Sundays. Happy hunting!

Q: So I was just in my kitchen baking a cake from scratch and wondering to myself. . . where can I possibly receive free advice to help me in my decorating dilemmas? I get stuck obsessing over paint colors and picture placement until I simply can’t sleep at night (unless I take an Ambien). [...]

Yesterday, I stopped by Best Fabrics on Burnet Rd. and Research, near Furniture Row. It’s not easy to spot the shop, but it’s worth discovering since Austin is short on good fabric stores. The inventory is neatly organized and includes quality fabrics for drapery or upholstery needs. According to our seamstress Leslye Womack, this is [...]

This week’s blog is completely poached from the wonderful Austin garden designer/blogger Pam Penick. She regularly writes about Austin’s unique gardening opportunities and constraints with lots of imagery. Pam writes: I’m joining my colleagues at Garden Designers Roundtable today on the topic “Vertical.” Introducing vertical elements into the garden is a time-honored technique for bridging [...]

How do I choose the correct rug size for my room? Is there a rule to follow? There is no need to follow strict guidelines for rug size, but there is a general rule of proportion to keep in mind. A rug should extend a room outward or define specific islands of living space. Generally, [...]
