Art for Your Eyes…

“Art for Your Eyes!” Local Austin artist Rory Skagen cracks me up with that tag line. His work is retro-humorous and beefy, with a seamy darkness lurking about the edges. He works in 2d and 3d, as well as producing art for interior and exterior spaces – love his versatility. Check out Blue Genie Art to see more…
Eye for your Art… okay, I’m obsessed with the public art movement. I visited this object in July, titled Eye by artist Tony Tasset, which is on display til October in Chicago’s Pritzker Park. Over 8,000 lbs. of fiberglass and 9,000 lbs of steel went into making this 30′ diameter homage to the artist’s son’s eyeball. What do you think of it?
For public art that is lyrical, elegant and thoughtful, look to Seattle artist Ann Gardner. I currently have a crush on this piece she did for the City Court of Atlanta, titled Ring of Water.
The each of the drops (covered small glass tiles) seem to correspond to a terrazzo spot on the floor. Gorgeous! What is your favorite design/art obsession right now?
